What websites see from you.
Turn your proxy on, then load this page. Your browser asks a few public services the same questions a website can ask, and each row says whether it gives you away.
Checking 7 signals
Asked from your browser. Nothing is stored.
- Checking
IP address
The address every site sees first.
If this is your own IP, the browser is not using the proxy. A system setting covers only apps that read it; an extension covers one browser.
- Checking
Network
Who owns the IP: a home ISP, a mobile carrier or a hosting company.
- Checking
IPv6
A second address that can bypass an IPv4-only proxy.
Your device has a public IPv6 address. If your proxy carries IPv4 only, turn IPv6 off in the browser profile or the network adapter.
- Checking
Forwarding headers
Via, Forwarded and X-Forwarded-For can carry your real IP.
Something between you and the site adds these headers. Use a proxy that strips them, or tunnel HTTPS through CONNECT, where nothing can be added.
- Checking
DNS resolver
Where your browser looks up names. A resolver in another country is a leak.
Names are resolved outside the proxy. With SOCKS5, switch to socks5h:// so the proxy resolves them.
- Checking
WebRTC
Can reveal your real IP outside the proxy.
Disable WebRTC or limit it to the proxied interface in the browser settings, or use a browser profile built for proxies.
- Checking
Time zone
A browser clock that does not match the IP country is a common flag.
Set the browser or profile time zone to the exit country.
Sources, asked directly by your browser: ipinfo.io (IP, network, country, time zone), api64.ipify.org (IPv6), httpbingo.org (headers), edns.ip-api.com (DNS resolver), stun.l.google.com (WebRTC). proxymint receives nothing and stores nothing.
Reading the result
- The IP is still yours. The browser is not using the proxy. Check where the proxy is set: a system setting covers only apps that read it, and an extension covers one browser. Setup for every system and browser is in how to use a proxy.
- The network is a hosting company. Fine for many targets, flagged by strict ones. Which proxy types read as home or mobile networks is in types of proxies.
- The DNS resolver is in your own country. Names are resolved outside the proxy. With SOCKS5, switch to
socks5h://; see SOCKS5 vs HTTP proxy. - WebRTC shows another public IP. Disable WebRTC or limit it to the proxied interface in the browser settings, or use a browser profile built for proxies.
- The time zone does not match. Set the browser or profile time zone to the exit country. Every signal sites compare is in how websites detect proxies.
Check a proxy from the command line
For a script or a server, one request shows the exit the target sees:
curl -sS -x "http://USER:PASS@HOST:PORT" https://ipinfo.io/jsonProxy in the wrong shape for your tool? The proxy format converter turns colon lists into URLs and Playwright settings. What our own gateway forwards, measured, is in proxymint Lab #1.
Common questions
Set the proxy in your browser or system, then open this page. If the IP address and country shown here are the proxy exit and not your own connection, the proxy is carrying your browser traffic. For scripts, run one request through the proxy to an IP echo service such as httpbingo.org/ip and compare the answer with your own IP.
A DNS leak means your device looks up website names through your own network's resolver while the page itself loads through the proxy, so the resolver location gives away where you really are. Over SOCKS5, use socks5h:// so the proxy resolves names; over an HTTP proxy, HTTPS requests are resolved by the proxy through CONNECT.
WebRTC lets a browser open direct connections for calls and file sharing. To do that it asks a STUN server for the public address of the device, which can bypass a proxy configured only for HTTP traffic and reveal the real IP to any page that asks.
Sites compare several signals at once: the network type behind the IP, a time zone or language that does not match the IP country, forwarding headers, DNS and WebRTC leaks, and browser fingerprints. An IP from the right country is necessary but not sufficient.
No. Your browser asks the public services listed on this page directly and shows the answers. proxymint does not receive or store the results.
